MicroGrant Guidelines

The 2021 application for SIF Microgrants is open until February 12th, 2021.

Guidelines for submitting a Microgrant application

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, proposed projects must be compliant with provincial and Public Health guidelines and restrictions. Our colleges’ students’ safety is our paramount concern.

Before submitting an application to the Sustainability Initiatives Fund (SIF) Microgrant Program, please read the following.

Am I guaranteed to receive a grant if I apply?

No, the Mohawk Sustainability team, under the direction of the SIF Committee, will review your application and see if they can accommodate your request for funding.

How much should I apply for?

Apply only for the exact amount you need to complete your project. In the application form, you must include a simple budget to show how you will be spend the funding. Mohawk Sustainability staff will determine how much you can receive based on available funds and perceived need.

Please note: there is no guarantee that you will receive funding if you apply.

How much can I apply for?

You can apply to cover expenses up to $1,000/project. However, most grants are $50-$250.

What opportunities does the SIF Microgrants program fund?

The purpose of the Microgrants program is to remove barriers that may prevent students from being able to engage in sustainability activities on and off campus. Microgrants are intended to help students cover the costs of pursuing educational sustainability projects.

Examples of expenses that the Microgrant may cover:

  • Materials for a sustainability event, such as a neighbourhood clean-up or speaker’s event

  • Materials or equipment for a capstone project

  • Conference tickets

  • Travel to/from a conference

  • Travel to/from volunteer positions

  • Materials for CEL or other hands-on learning placements

Want to start a club? The SIF does not provide start-up funds for clubs but the MSA’s got you covered. Apply for clubs funding here.
